We’ve all seen the images. Flooded roads, collapsed homes, and families trying to start over. The aftermath of Hurricane Melissa has left parts of Jamaica devastated, but the island’s spirit remains unbreakable. Now it’s on us, the diaspora, the global community, and everyone who loves Jamaican culture, to help the island rebuild.
Start with verified support
The Government of Jamaica has launched a secure, official donation site at SupportJamaica.gov.jm. Every dollar goes directly toward national recovery, restoring homes, rebuilding schools, and providing emergency aid where it’s needed most.
Support trusted partners
Beyond government relief, several credible organizations are doing important work:
- American Friends of Jamaica provides direct grants to Jamaican nonprofits focused on education, health, and development.
- Food For The Poor delivers food, housing materials, and medical aid across the island.
- WalkGood LA is a Black and Jamaican-led wellness organization in Los Angeles that uses movement, mindfulness, and culture to heal communities. While based in the U.S., WalkGood embodies the “Walk Good” spirit, promoting unity, resilience, and well-being, and often mobilizes its network to support Jamaican causes.
Think beyond the storm
Rebuilding doesn’t end when the floodwaters fade. Jamaica’s future depends on sustained investment in climate-resilient infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment. Continued giving, even after the news cycle moves on, is how we make real impact.
Use your platform
Even if you can’t be there, your voice matters. Share verified donation links, amplify Jamaican-led organizations, and remind your community that the island still needs our help.
Jamaica has given the world so much — music, culture, joy, and light. Now it’s time to give that love back. Whether through donations, partnerships, or simply spreading the word, every action helps. Let’s walk good, give good, and help Jamaica rise again.
