Free Groceries Across the DMV for Furloughed Workers

When the checks stop, the community steps in. With the government shutdown stretching on, thousands of federal workers and contractors across the DMV are caught in the middle. Bills are still due, groceries are still needed, but no pay is hitting the account.

That’s where the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) comes in. Starting next weekend, the organization is launching a series of free food giveaways across the region to support furloughed government employees and contractors. Each site will hand out boxes filled with fresh produce, pantry staples, and protein items. No questions asked, just bring your government or contractor ID.

Community Always Finds a Way

Moments like this remind us who we really are. The DMV has always had a way of looking out for its own, and this effort is another example of that spirit. When systems stall, people still show up.

If you’re in a position to give, donations and volunteers are being accepted at capitalareafoodbank.org. A small gesture can go a long way for someone trying to figure out their next meal.

Because no matter what’s happening in Washington, the people of this city keep moving and keep each other fed.
