Veracity Savant

Rapper-turned-athlete? That’s the path platinum-selling and Grammy-nominated artist Toosii is walking as he gears up for a brand-new chapter in his life. The North Carolina native is heading to College Park this weekend for his first official Division I football visit with Maryland during its season opener against FAU, Sports Illustrated reports.

Earlier this summer, Toosii, real name Nau’Jour Grainger, shocked fans when he announced he was putting music on pause to pursue what he calls his “first love”: football. The artist, who has built a loyal fanbase through hits and heartfelt records, is now chasing history by trying to become the first multi-platinum recording artist to return to school and play Division I football.

“I’m chasing history, first multi-platinum recording artist to go back to school and play DIVISION I football next year. I’m gonna be on somebody’s team, mark my words!” Grainger tweeted recently.

And he’s not just talking about it. Grainger has been putting in work at NC State’s practice facility, running routes, catching passes, and proving he’s serious about suiting up. The clips show off his speed, his hands, and even a one-handed grab that would make any wide receiver coach take notice.

Grainger’s love for the game isn’t new. Before the platinum plaques and packed-out shows, he was putting in work on the field at Rolesville High School in North Carolina. While his exact stats aren’t public, he’s bringing back that competitive fire and combining it with the discipline he’s gained as a performer.

The road won’t be easy — learning systems, mastering fundamentals, and adapting to the grind of Division I football is no small task. But if anyone knows what it takes to break through when the odds seem stacked, it’s Toosii. From overcoming challenges in music to now chasing a dream that feels bigger than him, he’s showing fans that it’s never too late to double back and pursue something you love.

This Saturday marks his first step, and all eyes will be on Maryland as Grainger begins the journey of turning ambition into reality. One thing’s for sure — whether on stage or on the field, Toosii knows how to put on a show.
