Veracity Savant

Some collectibles are sneakers, some are trading cards, and then there’s a gallon of 30-year-old barbecue sauce with Michael Jordan’s name on it. Yes, you read that right. The legendary McJordan BBQ sauce, originally created for McDonald’s 1992 McJordan sandwich, is back on the market and currently pulling in bids of nearly $6,000 on eBay, Sports Illustrated reports.

For context, the McJordan was the first McDonald’s burger ever named after a person, and of course, that person had to be the GOAT himself. The sandwich was a quarter-pounder stacked with Jordan’s favorite toppings: smoked bacon, cheese, onions, mustard, pickles, and the now-mythical McJordan BBQ sauce. Jordan even appeared in the commercials, blessing the sandwich with his signature cool.

The story of this sauce goes back to 2012, when a former McDonald’s franchise owner named Mort Bank unearthed a gallon of the McJordan sauce he had stashed away in North Dakota. At first, nobody was biting—until the news picked it up. Then suddenly, it was a full-court press, and the bottle was sold to a buyer in Chicago for nearly $10,000.

Now, more than a decade later, another bottle has surfaced on eBay. It’s unclear whether it’s the exact same one that Bank sold or if some other collector just happened to keep their gallon sealed like fine wine. Either way, the listing is wild. Not only do you get the sauce, but the seller also threw in a promotional poster and hoop.

The bottle is described as “unopened and brand new,” which, let’s be honest, is a stretch. After 33 years, what’s inside that jug could probably be trashed as toxic waste. Still, it’s hard to deny the appeal. This is peak ‘90s nostalgia, an artifact of when Michael Jordan wasn’t just dominating the court but also influencing what we were eating at McDonald’s drive-thrus.

With bids climbing by the day, this jug of McJordan BBQ sauce is cementing its place as one of the quirkiest (and priciest) pieces of MJ memorabilia out there. Sneakers may crease and jerseys may fade, but apparently, barbecue sauce is forever.
